She is here! We can't believe how lucky we are. Almost two weeks ago now I had a partial abruption and we rushed to the hospital for a semi-urgent c-section. She came out and initially required a little help with breathing, maintaining her body temperature and feeds, but all that has slowly and steadily improved and now we are anxiously awaiting her to be able to come home, hopefully in a few days.

Are You Guys Ready?

With a week off service, I have been working hard to get things ready around the house for Baby Girl Witt (still no name, I know it's driving you crazy...believe me that it's driving us MORE crazy). Her furniture was delivered as well as the glider and ottoman, a generous gift from her Great Grandmother Johnnie. Thought we would share some photos, wish you all could be here for such an exciting time in our lives. Chad & I still find it all difficult to believe. In the words of my OB this week "Are you guys ready?"

Moving day

Well, we made the move and are both in love with our new house. Right now, Chad is at work & I am waiting for the washer & dryer to be delivered. We are very grateful for the movers and the help of our family in St. Louis. All boxes are unpacked and the only big project left is organizing the master bedroom closet. We feel so lucky to have such a beautiful space to bring our baby girl home to...in less than 3 months! Thought that we would share some moving day photos, as you can see, the cat is still trying to adjust to the wide open space.

Home is Where Our Hearts Are

So good news. Chad & I have signed a lease on a brand new home! With the real estate market so unstable (and the sad state of the current economic climate) we were having quite a difficult time selling our condo, so we have decided to move into a place better suited for us and the baby and rent out our condo to try to weather the real-estate-storm. We loved our little condo, so close to the hospitals, it was perfect for the two of us during residency, but we really wanted more room for the baby and out-of-town family.

The new place is in a neighborhood called Franz Park, which is about 3 miles from the hospitals and has about 1/3 the violent crime rate of our current neighborhood. We are 1 block away from an elementary school and 1 and 1/2 blocks from Franz Park, a little neighborhood park with tennis courts and a playground. But, the house is the best part. It is a brand new 3 bedroom, 2 and 1/2 bath row home with everything we could possibly need. From a 2 car garage, to laundry on the bedroom level, a large, open first floor design and tons and tons of storage. We are super excited! We have a lot to do, but wanted to share our good news. Now just wish us some luck in getting renters for our condo!

Hi-ya

As Chad & I transition from our jobs this year as chief residents and prepare to start our clinical fellowships (a.k.a. go to multiple parties a day to mark the end of all this) I have experienced about a week of weird belly sensations that I am now certain are Baby Girl Witt kicks. They mostly feel like a little bounce on the inside of me, but you can feel them from the outside of my stomach too and even Dad-to-Be-Chad felt a little kick or two tonight.

Everything went great at our check-up this week. She is growing fast (and so is my abdomen, but I won't scare you with any pictures of that:). We have also now passed the half-way point as she is 20 weeks and 5 days today. She will be here before we know it.

Thanks for all of your love and support. We couldn't do it without all of you!

I'm a GIRL!

We had our anatomy ultrasound this week (on 6/5, my sister's birthday). The anxiety about an anomaly almost got the best of me but I kept busy and faced it with as much courage as I could muster. Good news was that everything on the scan looked awesome. Normal brain & spine, 4 chambered heart, normal abdominal organs, 2 arms (even counted some fingers!), 2 legs, good amount of amniotic fluid and appropriate size for gestation...not to mention...it's a GIRL (if you can see the 3 white lines on the ultrasound above, that's the baby girl parts)! At the end of the scan the tech kindly put it on 4D and for a few minutes we got to just sit there (well, Chad had to return some pages) and watch her shake her head, move arms and legs around, and even almost kick herself in the face (on the scan below).

We are both super happy that she is healthy and have celebrated this weekend by buying her a crib.

Monday 2/23/2009. First day of missed period. I suspect pregnancy based on vague symptoms. Chad is skeptical...still...I lay off the lattes.

Thursday 2/26/2009. Still no period, I race home from work (stopping at Walgreen's on the way) to take a test before Chad goes in to work moonlighting overnight. We have about 20 minutes together at home. I pee on the stick and we wait. After a few minutes, I go back into the bathroom to read the test. "What is it" I think. Is that just a control line? But if I squint my eyes and turn my head to the left a little bit I think I see a perpendicular line which would make the all-telling PLUS sign! "What is it?" Chad asks from the other room. "I don't know" I say. "What do you mean you don't know?" as he is walking in. "It's equivocal" I say. He looks. "This looks negative" he says. "But I have taken quite a few pregnancy tests in my life and they have never looked equivocal before...maybe it's positive." Tick...tick...tick...Chad says "You are going back to Walgreen's aren't you." "I'll page you when I know the result."

So back to Walgreen's (a different one this time because it's winter in STL so dark already and the Walgreen's closest to our condo isn't the best place for a lady after dark). This time I buy 2 and the ones that read "pregnant" or "not pregnant" to avoid confusion...who knew that with 24 years of higher education between us, we would not be able to interpret a pregnancy test.

Welcome to our blog. Since our family and friends are spread all over the country, we wanted an easy way to share our new experiences. We will do out best to keep it updated, but as you all know, the hectic lifestyle of a two physician family can be a challenge. This is our challenge, and so will be this new little one.
